Hi everyone i have a pair of lovebirds is it to late to see if they will breed i was thinking of getting a nest box and all that and see if they will breed. Or is it best to wait until next spring. I don't know there exact age but julie said they were last seasons birds. So my guess is there around 1 year old.Another question is the male keeps throwing his head around sometimes at the female if you know what i mean like shaking his head in a cricle motion. He also keeps chewing off newspaper from the bottom of the cage.

Love Birds will breed all year around Tara so it's not too late, if they are a year old then they well may breed for you, it sounds like the male is doing the mating thing trying to attract the attention of the hen and Pachface Love Birds will use paper to build a nest they will actually tear it into strips and put it in their tail feathers then carry it to the nest box and build the nest. I would suggest that you give them clean white paper to tear up and avoid using news paper or paper from glossy magazines.
Good luck with them I am sure they will give you many hours of pleasure..

i'm going to the pet shop today to get a nest box, nesting material, cuttlefish, feed bowls, bird net. When i get home i'm going to attach the nest box tie the nesting material to the cage put the cuttlefish in give them fruit and vegies. Then i'm going to let them go and see what they do.DOn't worry i am having fun with them as of the male got out of the cage through the feeders. The lids to get to the feeders pull out wards. So i have attach pegs to stop him from getting out.It took me 10minutes to catch him with a hat and towel.

One of the lovebirds has already checked out the nest box.My dad said female loves will pair up with another female and a male will pair up with another male.
