Looks like I just got myself into strife on a yahoo group for voicing my opinion so I thought I'd run it past you guys. What are your thoughts on breeding 240gm tiels? Personally I think that is way too large and is no longer a standard cockatiel. If I want a bird that size I will buy another species that is larger! I was rudely told we have bred platinums and messed with nature and breeding larger size is no different! I really had to bite my tongue! I very nearly said it was so typical of the darn yankees having to have the biggest! Still got the teeth marks to prove it!LOL Jo-Anne

For whats it's worth 240 is grossly overweight although I find it hard to believe maybe it has some sought of Sumo gene ;Dlol.A fellow breeder here in Victoria showed me last year a Cockatile egg that was almost 3 times the size of a normal egg and definately laid by a Tiel God Bless, but the point here is the responsible breeder realised this is not normal and didn't allow it's fertility something the oversease guys (sorry yanks) cannot comprehend. Take one look at the genetic descriptions of some of their birds to realise who is messing with Mother Nature!! and we are messing with Platinums Pleeeeease!
