I know I might be stressing too much, but I've had a nesting box in my blue ringnecks cage for the last week, and I've been feeding them lots of fresh varied fruit everyday. But it dosn't seem they are interested in breeding. My green pair are fine with the male constantly feeding the hen, grooming her and mating. And she's been in/out of box. the blue pair are proven breeders from a well-known breeder, and the birds have bred for the last 2 years. Any help appreciated please, and any healthy criticism as to what I should be doing etc appreciated!!! Thank-you, Dee.

Hello Dee, I wouldn't be too worried just yet there can be a lot of reasons as to why they are not breeding, it could be the new surroundings perhaps something different that they are not used to yet or it could be just that they just are not ready to breed, don't worry yet if as you say they are proven breeders then they will get on with it in their own sweet time.

Dee, I am fairly new to ringnecks this being our first proper season. we have 10 in a large avairy. I was talking to a old guy who has been breeding every sort of bird imaginable for years and he said that you shouldn't overdo the fruit thing as they won't breed as well. Apparently they get too hypo and don't get on with the job. He puts in about the equivalent of 1/2 an apple per pair per day or other sort of fruit and has enormous success. So I guess what he was saying is plenty of fresh fruit but don't go overboard. You said you give them heaps so wondering if thats just a figure of speech or maybe you should cut back a little. However everyone has different opinions and I'm sure someone else will probably disagree with this as I've not been told to go easy on the fruit before. we have 4 pairs breeding and they have 12 eggs between them so we are getting quite excited. Good luck with your breeding season Jen
