Hi, We finally have some eggs from one of our birds.
She's been sitting on them on and off for two weeks.
I'm not holding out much hope of them hatching though because I just have not been lucky with breeding budgies at all.
How long will they take to hatch (if they are going to).
Should she be sitting on them all day and night and only coming out for feeds? What normally happens here, can somebody fill me in please.

They should be ready to hatch now Shelly so keep an eye on them. Whether she sits on them all day is dependent on the weather during the day. It has been very hot here in Sydney and my birds will leave the eggs during the day for long periods of time, I have 10 babies at the moment ranging in age from days to weeks old and some eggs are still hatching.
If you are having trouble getting your birds to breed then there are a couple of things you can do, not knowing the situation you are breeding in whether it is selective or colony breeding, does present a problem in it's self. I would suggest you have a look for a product called Budgie Starter it is manufactured and marketed by Passwells and I can recommend it, I use it and at the moment have over 25 baby budgies ranging in age from 4 weeks to 4 days old.
In the wild Budgies feed their chicks a high protein diet of seeds, fruit and insects. Generally, the seeds of native plants provide superior nutrient compositions to those of most cereal grains fed by breeders.
Budgie owners traditionally supplement their breeding birds with a selection of foods such as soaked seed, egg and biscuit products and a range of home made recipes. Unfortunately birds do not select a healthy diet form a mixture of food, then pick out those they prefer. A breeding supplement for budgies needs to provide a balanced mix of nutrients in a single food.
Millet and Canary seed are low quality protein foods because they are deficient in several essential amino acids. Adding an animal based protein to the food of breeding budgies will not only increase the quantity of dietary protein but will greatly improve it's quality. Breeding budgies need a supplement that contains a higher level of quality protein than a seed diet. I hope this helps a bit
