It looks like my Hen has rejected the babies. She is sleeping out of the box. Do I leave them? it's a little warm but no more than the previous couple of days. If so Until I can get some hand raising mix what would be good to feed them? so upset about this

How old are the chicks as this can be normal especially if they have pin feathered!

?? They have downy fluff on them, one we guess is about 10 days the other about 3 to 4 days behind that. they are very loud and are extremely alert. I didn't think mum's slept out of the box! My first clutch with them. Maybe I'm a paranoid mum Thanks Frank. I might just build up the courage to pinch them off her anyway!

Hello Amanda providing the birds have a full crop I wouldn't panic just yet even thought they are very young. Keep a real good eye on them and at the first sign of neglect i would be pulling them.

I will. Mum and Dad are getting sprouts first thing in the morning and I'll check on them then. I just thought it was weird for mum not to sit on them when they are young. I wouldn't be worried if they had feathers. Will buy a packet of H/R mix just to be sure!

I checked on them at 6am and M+D were in the box. When I gave them sprouts at 6.30am I checked in on the babies and their crops looked almost empty to me and they were crying very loudly. I'll wait till 8am so M+D eat some sprouts and see if their crops are full if they aren't I'll have two companions to go to work with me! I've steralised a syringe just incase and all I need to do is find a box and put some hydrosorb (wood shavings) in for their bedding. At least they are warm!

It is a worry Amanda I know how you feel. I'd make sure I bought that hand raising mix, even to supplement them if they appear hungry. Have you hand reared before? It wouldn't hurt if they were fed by M+D as well as you, just to make sure.

Oh I did Laraine! A nice big packet too. I checked on them this afternoon when I got home from work. First thing I did, washed hands then grabbed the keys and went down. They both had full crops so maybe M+D are really slow! Oh boy do they make a noise!!!! SO LOUD. No wonder mum doesn't want to be in there, that and it stinks of baby poop! I haven't hand reared but I've watched it being done and I've spoon fed I have syringes everywhere for med's etc so I'm set up. I even transformed a carboard box this morning just incase! More sprouts in the morning! (good thing about chooks, you never waste anything!)

They are doing really well! SO NOISY Shane stuck his head in on them yesterday and they were not impressed. they have tails now, all be it little stumpy ones so the younger one is definately looking like a normal. I'll check on them this afternoon and take the camera with me. I'm still so very excited about them too

The Lutino baby in the picture I am thinking is a hen the red on her back comes through from dad. It will probably have flecks of red elsewhere on the body as it gets more feathers.

So why is it that the Mum has no red? is it a different form of Lutino? confusing

Mum probably wasn't form an Opaline male it's my guess that she was from a Lutino male and a lutino hen. I could be wrong about the baby Amanda but in the case of an Opaline male and a lutino hen they are usually sexable in the nest, you will know more when it feathers up more if it is a cock bird then the red patch on it's back will really stand out, they are a spectacular looking bird I posted a picture of one here a while ago I was lucky enough to find one so i got it to mate with my lutino hen.
