How are everyone's breeding seasons going? Is everyone having great success. Mine has started off very slowly, maybe its the drought. Only one pair of red rumps on eggs. Three lots of budgies have hatched and fledged. Two more budgies are on eggs and two cockatiel couples. My quail has been sitting on eggs for an eternity as well.
John - Are your Princess Parrots breeding? My boy has been sick and spent 2 nights in the vets, but is on the mend now, but still in the hosepital cage.

John - Are your Princess Parrots breeding? My boy has been sick and spent 2 nights in the vets, but is on the mend now, but still in the hosepital cage. I have had a reasonable season, sometimes disappointing but generally not too bad. I have had two lots of Cockatiel babies, 5 babies in total, 10 baby budgies over a period of two months, but i did expect that as I have re housed them all and have a lot of young birds. My Peach face have been a big disappointment and have not given me one baby bird, I have in the nest at the moment three baby Red Rumps two Lutino hens and what is looking more like a split male instead of a Opaline hen, I had one pair sitting on six eggs but they were all infertile and she hasn't gone down again, she maybe too young as she is just over 12 months old. I have a Pied hen that has had her first year with an experienced male but nothing from her this year. My Princes Parrots are sitting on 6 eggs Laraine, but i don't hold much hope as the male had a few problems mating as it is there first time in a large aviary, some of the eggs are past there hatch date but I will leave them until she either hatches some or abandons them. I am looking toward next season now and as I have all the extensions done to my big aviary I am going to pair up different birds in attempt to get some different colour combinations. I agree with you Laraine the weather has had a lot to with this years breeding and because of the lack of rain the birds are not breeding. I have a theory about this and if it rains the birds believe that there is an abundance of seed and their biological clock says it is OK to breed but if we are in drought then the feed situation is not enough to support the birth of babies so they don't breed. Well I've had highs and lows, my cockatiels have had a shocker, 3 pairs only hatched 1 chick, and one of these pairs went down again to hatch none My mulga parrots were by themselves for 2 months and didn't even look at the box, ironically now I gave up and put them in the big aviary for a holiday they are sticking together and he's feeding her. And you probably saw my post on my confused red rump pair where the cock wouldn't let the hen sit. On a good note I have scarlet, turq and bourke chicks and red rumps too. Many breeders here in Brisbane think its the drought too.

we desperately need rain.............it is getting pretty bad when I hear on the news that Kingaroy has not had any crops for 2 years and if it doesn't improve some businesses are going to close....scary stuff. So some good heavy rain would be beneficial for everyone hey.
