Yesterday I put all my breeding boxes into my aviaries. As well I put all the birds I had quarantined from the Castle Hill markets in as well. Already my yellow opaline male red rump has paired up with the opaline female, chasing everyone else away. The Bourke female disappeared into the breeding box in a special breeding cabinet and hasn't come back out. Fingers crossed. I also have paired up the lutino with the blue male red rump separately. So fingers crossed. Has anyone else put their breeding boxes in yet?

Sort of Laraine....canaries,doves and finches are building their own darn nests anyway LOL. Princesses have their box. My older hens are just coming back on the lay so I suppose I will have a broody before long and than some chicks. All the roosters are "raping" the girls like no mans business so I guess the season isn't far off at all for any of us now.

I have nearly all mine in now Laraine, mulgas and red rumps are sitting, turqs and scarlets are starting to show some interest, (I have a trillion bourkes already and found them impossible to sell so they will miss out this year) I gave a box to a pair of tiny bush budgies, the cockatiels were popping in and out within 1 minute of the boxes going in, they are obsessive compulsive breeders, my larger parrots are waiting for another avairy to be finished then they'll get theirs.

I'm juist about to put in the galahs log and am getting one ready for the rainbows. One of my wyandotte hens is sitting on some eggs, shame there won't be any bubs LOL Raping is pretty much right Seb, those roosters don't take no for an answer

Talk about raping chooks. I had two muscovey drakes many years ago who would pack rape my poor hens (chooks). I ended up getting rid of the drakes as they were actually making the hens bleed from their claws on their backs.

Yes, aren't drakes the most awful things doing that? We used to have quite a few ducks and the drakes were always doing that to anything that moved.

oh so that is normal??? I just thought I had some sick drakes. One drake on his own seems ok, but anymore together..........seems to be trouble.

Well I won't be getting any ducks than if they are that brutal. Mind I might get a couple of hens for eggs. Luckily with my roosters they have a pecking order,so only the top rooster seems to be mating the girls.

I still have to find a duck breed that I really like. A friend has Mandarins and Scaups. They are so small but need really amazing things to breed. The mandarins require a hollow log over water just to get them to think about breeding.

How has everyone's breeding season started off? I have a couple of budgies on eggs, a couple of tiels sitting on eggs and most exciting my first ever Burke Parrots have eggs. So far the red rumps aren't going into the nest even though 2 pairs have teamed up. Hopefully that will happen soon.

well your season seems to be starting off very well Laraine.
My canaries (not that I am a breeder, just hoping for some babies one day. LOL) are building a nest and I actually saw the male feeding the female and mating her too. He was whistling and flapping while mating.........clever bird.
Shrekie has layed a couple of eggs, but no boyfriend yet. I have marked out where I want the aviary built and have asked him to start working out prices ............. geesh, I have to literally put a bomb under him. But it will happen. I don't know what has happened to the aviary my son's friend wanted to get rid of, but if I ever get it I am sure I can find a place for it.

Oh (feeling guilty now). In my husbands defence........he has been very busy repairing cars (kids) and going to dog trials with me and tomorrow he sits an aptitude test for an adult electrical apprenticeship....... so there, now I feel better, at least the aviary is built yet because he sits around doing nothing.

Yesterday I put my 3 male ringnecks and my pair of Rainbow Lorikeets in a separate aviary, without a box, so my Crimson Rosellas might breed.....and someone laid an egg. LOL.

Now I'm wondering if I should put a breeding box into the new aviary, even though it will be on the floor?

well the last time I looked my female canary had laid 3 eggs. It is bloody windy here at the moment too. Thank goodness we bought some shade blinds as it cuts out a lot of the wind, so I keep them down while the weather is like it is as my birds (not Takoda) are on the back verandah. Oh and hubby ordered the wire from Bunnings.........ye ha. Now he needs to buy the steel and the aviary will get started.

Well I am about to pull all my nests for fear I will have a heap of newly hatched babies in 3-4 weeks when I am hoping to move. Finches have laid everywhere and the canaries have started as well...ohhh to have moved a month ago Not to worry hopefully they will all go down again but if not there is always next season. Is a bit annoying about not letting the princesses have a go this season unless they decide to go late, thankfully they are both pretty calm and easy going birds so with a bit of luck they will settle again very quickly...not that theyare showing much interest anyway LOL. Will hopefully at least have chickens in 3 weeks as they are easy to move and pretty much self sufficient from hatching, just first few days and than they are in a brooder anyway...hoping for 18+ chicks there.
