hey guys...
I took all of the nesting boxes out of my aviaries yesterday because they say there is a heat wave comming to SE qld in the next few weeks and I only had one bird sitting on 2 eggs so i thought I would sacrifice those eggs and get the boxes out b4 they all have more eggs then the heat gets them, anyhoo...I was just wondering what is the best way to clean the boxes b4 i store them and then again b4 i put them back in at the end of summer? Last year I used a weak soloution of bleach in warm water and scrubbed them and them left them sitting in the sun for a few days.... is this ok or is there something better I could be doing? I also spray them with a lice spray b4 i put them back in... I have never had a lice problem but I do it just in case ;D any suggestions would be super!!!

Personnally l wouldn't sacrifice egg's in boxes, birds will find ways to combat heat, especially if they are Australian Birds :)And if it is hot and high temperatures, try spraying a water bottle outside the boxes to create mostiure. This IS what is important with young/hatchlings It gives them air mostiure for them to absorb into there skin, thus giving them water.... I personnally have noticed the last 2 seasons due to dry conditions(drought)people asking why there young birds would hatch then after 1>2 week's die for no apparent reason??? Dry low Humitiy conditions..." is the answer in most cases Lately we have expericanced high humitity (mostiure) conditions "wet " So you will see a high out put in breeding and success compared to the last 2 years.. So when breeding birds and you are worried make sure there is moisture in the air Not flooded so it is flooded........... just wet...moist
