Hope of use roseicollis.net/stories.php While I believe there is much that is helpfull, here.I believe even if one does everything correctly from a technical point of view.it is also important to play with and socialize the baby. Also it is also better to leave the baby with the parents for a little while. They should only be taken from the parents at day one,if deserted by parents. from Robert and Angel

Yes I agree too Robert.......baby birds should be left with their parents for a little while before handraising if possible.
I love the story of "Michelle" the one winged budgie ........ that was lovely.

At this stage there is no way I'll feed from day 1. As said, it's an around the clock commitment. I've done from day 3 purely because of parent problems and that was exhausting let alone the worry with the baby as to whether they'd make it through. If possible leave babes until at least day14. Makes life easier for yourself and gives the bubs a chance to get all the goodness from the parents. Great article there Robert and most of the points can be applied to any baby bird not just lovies.

Wow this is a great site Robert, i hope to breed some lovies oneday so ill add this site to my favourites. i dont think ill handraise from day one its too hard, i had to handraise a black too from day one once and it was draining, he was ok but i needed one big sleep in after he was weaned. But the info is good just incase anyone runs into a siuation where they have to raise a day 1 baby

I agree with abundance weaning. I didn't realise that is what it was called though, but that is how I wean my birds.
They also talk about food phobias. Well this morning I gave Gunny some whole unshelled brazilian nuts, almonds and some other type of nut (acorn maybe) and he totally freaked out. In the 10 days he has been here he has been great until this. I put some museli over it and some rockmelon.........a few hours later I noticed him with a whole brazilian nut and trying to crack it.
