What do you guys use for nest box materials for the nest.
I have been told by one guy that he goes to the local sawmill and gets a bin of sawdust and mixes that with pine shavings and soaked coir. What do you guys use??

Woodshavings is what I usually use. I tried sugar cane mulch once, might use it again as the budgies liked it.

what I put in the avairy probably wont be of much help tracey due to the difference in bird size lol. I let the finches choose from coconut fibre, pea straw, quail feathers (no I dont pluck them, they donate freely. well the females do with the males help) and what ever they can take from the plants in the aviary

Hi. I've just bought two budgies. They were hand-reared and they're very nice-natured, they'll come to you and sit on your finger and all that. Thought I'd improve their cage a bit, and since I already had a wrapped bale of sugarcane mulch, I put a couple of inches of it in the bottom of the cage.
They've taken no notice of it, one way or the other, but I just noticed today they were digging in their feathers a bit, apparently "flea-ing" themselves, (for want of a better word). Not all the time, but I hadn't noticed them doing it before. I've only had them two days so this might well be normal behaviour for them, I don't know. But I'd like to find out if sugarcane mulch can contain little nasties that budgies can't cope with.
Can anybody clue me in on that?
Thanks.
