I thought I would post this as my breeding budgies with bubs would not eat the sprouted mixture that Frank posted. So i asked a friend that breeds & shows his canaries what he gives the mums & dads for their bubs. Here is what he told me he uses Rape, safflower & millet. So went searching again & found a heap of other little seeds that can be added. They are Broccoli, Alfalfa, Seasame, Radish, Mustard, Red Clover, Dill, Linseed & Fenugreek. As these seeds are small, I put them in a square ice cream container & use a womens ankle stocking & streatch it over the top. Soak the seeds in warm water for about 6 hours, with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar then rinse. Rinse twice a day till you just see tails appearing & then refridgerate. I could not begin to tell you the benefits of all these seeds as it would take up pages of info. The budgies love these smaller germinated seeds, so they would be good for other smaller parrots like Bourkes etc. As it gets hotter though, don't leave in the feeding dishes for too long as they will go off. If anyone else on the Forum germinates seeds for their smaller parrots & has any other type of seeds that they use, I would love to hear. Cheers for now Anna

Hi Anna, What a great mix. I have sprouted just ordinary budgie mix and the gang go wild over them. I have even sprouted winter grass and millet, and some of the other wild stuff in the gardens mid season after collecting and saving the seed.

Hi Anna, we use the same sprout mix for all our birds and they all eat it including the budgies. In fact the budgies hang off the wire waiting for it, lol.
