I feed my birds a white powder called Rutin Mix it's a funny name i know but this stuff is great. It contains calcium, magnesium and vitamin a. You just sprinkle it over seed and mix it all in. The rutin mix sticks to the seed so the birds have to eat it. This is my substitute for cuttlebone but i still give my birds cuttlebone every now and then

Hi Jeremy The only problem I have with powder sprinkled on seed is the birds dont eat the husk of the seed they shell it and eat the inside or the seed kurnell. I gusee they would get some of the powder when they are shelling the seed but i would imagine a bit of it would get lost, my personal method to adding anything like this is using water sollubale stuff.

Hi Jeremy Rutin's is best sprinkled over Germinated/Sprouted seed very lightly when moist as it soaks up into the goodness of the seed and not lost like John has explained cheers Frank

I've never heard of it. Where would I look for it?

Hi Kim Rutin Mix is a mineral and vitamin supplement product that was introduced for horses who tended to bleed thru the nostrils from lung irregularities and subsequently proved useful as a calcium supplement. I think the product is way over the top for Aviculture and more natural means of calcium supplements are better served for our bird, cheers Frank

you can buy it at most produce stores but you might have to shop around to find it as a lot of produce stores don't keep it as there isn't much of a demand for it
