I must comment on the sprouted seed that I have been feeding the birds. I followed Franks directions and the first lot were an abject failure, completly my fault not Franks directions I have to say.
I have since changed a few things in the way I prepare it and boy oh boy are the birds loving it!!! I am now producing sprouted seed as fast as they can devour it.
I started out with a small dish full as I was only feeding it to the Cockatiels, I am now producing a couple of Ice Cream containers full so I can feed it to all my birds, budgies included, I find that they absoulitly devour it as soon as I put in the aviary.
The Love Birds eat it before anything else and completly clean it up. I was adding Ornithon supplement to my birds water every day but now I am giving them Aviclens in the water and sprinkling the Soluvet over the seed. I am very Impressed with the way the birds have accepted this and the sprouted seed.

Hi John, good to hear that the sprouted seed recipe of Franks is working. Most of my birds eat it except for a few of my budgies but their babies love it. I now use this sprouted seed as an important part when I am weaning my h/rear tiel babys & they just love it. Gets them onto eating harder seeds & their veggies & bits of fruit. I was determined that all my baby tiels would be eating veggies & fruit & sprouted seed before they were sold & I also give the new owners a copy of Frank's receipe & ask them to continue feeding their new birds for maximum health. Cheers for now Anna

Glad it's worked for you all one thing is to remember is not as much green food is needed if feeding sprouts twice weekly with greens is ample. Before you know it John the birds will recognise the sprout dish and they will be hanging of the wire in anticipation especially the breeders feeding young,I'm up at crack of dawn every morning 7 dys a week during breeding season to feed their sprouts, some like to give it to them as late as possible in the evenings for morning feeds this is to me a toatal waste of time as the nutrition content is gone after a couple of hours a good serve morning and afternoons to feeding parents is the most effective cheers ;D Frank

So are you saying to feed greens daily but the sprouts only twice a week? Mine are so used to greens each day I would get a riot if I didn't offer it to them! And I am also one who feeds the greens late as possible......hmmmm...I will certainly have to change my feeding habits when those sprouts eventually get made for them! Thanks so much fr those 2 bits of info....I would be doing it all wrong otherwise! Jo-Anne

I had a strange thing happen this morning. I had made up a batch of seed and it was ready to start feeding to the birds, I did everything the same, added the Avicleans to the original soaking water and had religiously rinsed the seed every six hours. This morning the sprouts were ready but they had gone sour and I dont know why, Should i add more Aviclens to the first soak? any suggestions?

Hi John the seeds will go sour if let to dry out they must be kept moist at all costs,I do believe you have had very hot weather in Sydney so maybe this is the reason for drying out the sprouts. After rinsing place a tea-towel over the mix as darkness allows to sprout more faster and place the colander in a cooler location.Jo-Anne I'm saying that breeders are fed sprouts day and afternoons and to these birds i feed greens only twice per week cheers Frank ;D

Thanks Frank I have just rinsed them again and put the damp tea towel over them. It's all a learning process for me but I'm sure the birds are getting heaps of benifit from it.
