When I got my baby from Dad, he gave me a tip of putting baby food in with the mix ie. Fruity Apple. So far the bird has loved it, but today I couldn't get Fruity Apple, so I got Fruity Pear......my bird loves it. Just a teaspoon full in the mix and they gobble it up. Does anyone else use this as well when they are hand raising??

Yep. The enzymes in the apple help with the digestion, while also making the mix more palitable. Not sure if pear has the same digestive properties as the apple. There's another people recommend also - Heinz beef and vegetable???

Hi Tracey & Claire, I have been using diluted organic apple cider vinegar in my formula for quite a few years & I beleive it also does that same thing but it also keeps any nasty bugs away as well. I haven't had a problem with slow crop either which tiels can be prone to since using this in the formula. I also use diluted apple cider vinegar in all the drinking water too for my birds. The ratio is 10mls to every litre of water. This works for me but I have used the baby applesauce in the formula but a friend told me about using the apple cider vinegar & I have never looked back. It may seem a bit weird but it does work. Cheers Anna

When I mix my Hand rearing fomula ( Roudybush ), I mix approx. 3 heaped teaspoons of Formula powder, 1 medium teaspoon of applesauce and 1 medium teaspoon of peanut butter which helps build up the fat content often needed with formula diets. Mix with enough water to make a creamy smooth (no lumps) mixture that just flows gently of the spoon. My Quakers and Conures love it. Cheers Darren
