has anyone used yoghurt added to handraiseing mix to add good bacteria for chicks? I'm thinking of useing it as an alternative to probotics as I can't get them up here and I've run out, I have a couple of chicks that have crops slowing and want to get on top of it fast. Also I've been told that 1/2 cup warm water 1tspoon of cider vineger and 1tspoon of acidophilus yoghurt can speed up slow crop and get rid of mild cases of candida in the crop. I'd love to here some opinions on this type of natural treament for mild cases of candida as oposed to useing nilstat all the time.

Hi Kim, friend of mine uses yogurt in his h/rearing mix when he is feeding his ringnecks from egg, or even yacult (sorry wrong spelling) says it works a treat. Have also read an article about someone using fennel tea for slow crop, but that is a new one for me. When am h/rearing my babies I always use diluted apple cider vinegar 10 mls to 1 litre of water. Also applesauce is great for a slow crop too, just mix about a teaspoon in with the formula. Hope this helps. I do have a great article on slow crop/sour crop if you are interested, just email me at aeolive01@ yahoo.co.uk. Cheers Anna

Nps Kim the article I saved was from Just Cockatiels by Suzzanne Russo but unfortunately her web site is no longer there so I can't link to it anymore to refer people to, but I did save it on word document for my reference only. Is a fabulous article & I have used her remedies & they work, even though it is written for tiels, it does work on other birds. Hope all goes well for you. Cheers Anna

I have used fennel tea. It did seem to work. But also for slow crops you can use rice water. Just boil some rice up and use the water for it..The ACV can help as well..I also do put a pinch of bi-carb soda. A few drops of ACV and a pinch of bi-carb to there water helps to clean there systems out..I do this every month for a few days with my avairy birds..Even if they do have babies..
