I give mine mostly unsalted, sometimes I have salted ones and only give them a couple as a treat. As part of their diet, every couple of days I put almonds, pine nuts, and pepita's in a container. if I have pistacios then i give them a couple as I cannot find unsalted ones, they are always salted and that is not good for the birds.
I give them nuts in the shell, like macadamia's, and brazil nuts when I can find them (usually at xmas time). I crack the shell a bit first then let them at it, they love to play and try to get the nut out. I crack it for two reasons, 1 - to make sure the nut is ok, and to make it easier for them to get into.
I have read that only unsalted should be given.......which makes sense. If I am eating cashews or pecans, etc i always give them a couple too.
I have read you have to be careful of the peanuts in the shell because of some disease that can be on the shell from mould (or something like that) so I do not give them those unless shelled.
