does anyone else's alex's like pumpkin seeds? coz my boy goes mad over them...he loves them so much. but he doesnt get them very often. not sure that its part of any normal diet for wild birds, or that its all that good for him, but he's not had any trouble with it!
what else are good little treats for parrots? just curious as to what your birds eat, maybe jakari would like some of it too!
cheers, erin

Erin my birds love pumpkin seed and I can often be found sitting at the kitchen table picking them out of the center of the pumpkin then washing and cleaning them, they are a real treat for my cockatiels and red rumps, havn't tried it with the budgies yet ;D

Erin Pumpkin seeds are good for your alex and a good natural wormer also. My Alex's love just about everything. Chillies, all fruits and vegies, passionfruits, pasta cooked and raw, dry dog food and dog biscuits, cooked meat, cooked potato, cooked chicken bones.

I am a bit concerned about potato and cooked chicken bones/meat in a birds diet as in the wild they sure wouldn't have a stove...though I do give my chooks a can of cat food every now and than for the extra protein. Meal worms would in my opinion be a better option than any cooked meat as a treat...though mealies are not viable for me as I currently have about 30 chooks. I am about to give my princesses pumpkin seed for the fist time as never even thougt of trying them with some until this post.

I can see your point about those foods not being in their natural diet but when you think about it most of what we feed them isn't in their natural diet so we must substitute a great deal. A lot of birds eat a lot more protein than we would realize, there are even some that eat meat in the wild so as a treat I can't see any probs with cooked foods so long as they don't get too many.

My birds love pumpkin seeds too. You can feed them raw (as I do) or pop them in the oven for a while to dry them out (I haven't done that one because mine love them raw anyway).
My birds get the occassional cooked chicken leg bone and boiled egg with the shell on it. It is good protien and calcium as well.
