nuts in the shell

hi there iam still trying to find whp sells the xmas nuts in the shells you know the ones u have to use a hammer on ive tried everywhere i need them for the 2 disabled alexs as they seem to be the only thing they can keep their beaks down on apart from me clipping the beaks which scared the heck out of them
any idea do they hide these nuts away somewhere till xmas lol

Have you tried Banksia nuts Polly? They may be easier to find than mixed nuts in the shell. I buy my nuts from woolworths.

Walnuts are you taking about.I have seen the xmas mixes in shops around still.Try fruit shops,some times they have them.

Hi All, you can get all sorts of nuts in the shell for quite cheap, and in bulk at nutbags.com (i think that is correct will check and re post if not!!!) i haven't bought from them as yet as i did the big stock up at xmas but i certainly will give them a go as my birds go thru the nuts like nothing else!!!

Polly how are the Alex beaks now. I guess you have found the nuts by now, but there are many ways to help keep Beaks in shape, Particularly Alexandrines who are great chewers, for the very reason yours need nuts. Beaks keep growing like nails and HAVE to be worn down and this is why we provide heaps of chewing things for them Pine cones, sticks, even toys.
