This is Cookie.....I got him when I was young...... when my family moved away down the coast, I had to stay because of work, but mum and dad took Cookie with them. He was a real big bird, very tame and a brilliant talker. Mum and dad lived near the bush so Cookie had a gum tree that he stayed in most of the day, but at about 4 in the arfternoon he would slide down his long ramp and call out to come in. My Dad passed away and Cookie became to much for mum to handle and at that time I lived in a unit, so to be kind to Cookie we asked a birdland resort on the coast if they would take him. He is still there and he lives in the biggest avairy you could see, he has a lady friend and lots of other companions. I would have loved to have him back but I know that he is very happy. When I did a photo workshop I had taken some neat photos of him and found them the other day.........Deb img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/869865/Cookie-2.jpgimg.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/869865/Cookie-4.jpg

That's what i call a feel good story Deb ;D. He is a beautifull boy and I'm sure he is very happy where he is, I came by my Sulpher Crested much the same way and I wouldn't part with him now Im just happy that I was fortunate eneough to be in the right place at the right time to be able to give him a good home.

Hi Deb, he is a beautiful big bird. My story is very similar to yours. We had one named Possum (don't ask), he also use to sit in the big rain forest trees all day & come in at night. When we built our first home unfortunately there were no trees on the block, I couldn't let him out like I use to as there were big dogs next door, & the only place he had to climb were the fences. It was so cruel to see him locked up in his avairy most of the time. A friend of mine worked at the Billabong Sanctuary where there were a lot of other cockatoos, as well as a lot of australian wildlife & that's where he lives today. We can go & visit & he loves living there. It has been 9 years now, I miss him, but I know he is happy. Shelly

Hi Shelly Yes it's sad to let them go like we did, but you have to think of their happiness You should have seen Cookie's tree, every branch that he could get too......he stripped ;D ;D Dad had to move him to another so the poor tree could get some leaves back and it was no small tree by any means....this was a huge gum tree.....oh well he was never bored It's been a while since I have been to see him, but my sister was there a while back and called out to him and he came down the wire to right in front of her and said " wotcha doin there" Funny it's about 9 years for me too since we gave up Cookie Cheers Debs
