Hi Bill, The genetics of the parents don't tell us much becuase there is obviously some splits involved here but i'm thinking dad is split to Platinum and mum must be or is split pied for the bird in the photo is a Pied hence the yellow flight feathers and crest and it looks very much a Platinum Pied so dad must be split to Platinum cheers Frank

hello frank yes the mother is split to pied but unsure of the male any idea of weather it would be male or female and what would be a good mate for it i was thinking of putting it to a whiteface regards bill

Yes Bill I'm pretty confident it's a hen if its a Platinum and you want to introduce Whitefaced lines then I would mate her to a Whiteface Lutino(Albino) cock to produce Lutino's, Platinum's and Platino males all these offspring would then be split to Whitefaceface which would then give you the metioned varieties in Wfaced lines cheers Frank

No only thru test breeding Bill unfortunately the photos make it hard to distinguish but I'm pretty confident the photo shows Platinum flights also have been breeding Platinums for many years and can tell you they are definately born with Red eyes which darken after 3-4 weeks but always remain a red and not black cheers Frank!

Hi Bill, Looks like the same colour as my platinum split pied hen and she also has dark eyes now. If you look at the eyes very closely they will be dark but more a dark red than a black. Different ways the light hits the eyes will show more of the reddish colour.....but on quick glance they do look black. Jo-Anne

Thanx Jo -Anne yes Bill the terminology we give to their eye color is "Ruby" but after fledging they turn very dark !Flash a torch light in their eyes at dark and you will see the redness if it is a Platinum and the same can be said for a Cinnamon cheers Frank
