Here is my princess parrot, hand raised but could do with a little more training when i have the time! Always comes up for a chat when i am around the aviary. I read some of the stuff about sexing them but haven't applied it yet with any certainty to him/her.

Hi JMS Bone. Good looking princess parrot. From the colour of it"s eyes it could be a male as males have the orange like iris while females have more of a brown iris. Also the feathers at the top of the head & across the back indicate a male but this is just a guess from the pic. How old is it. Aren't they so regal the princess parrots. I have 3 of my own. 1 green male who is split for yellow, 1 normal green female & 1 female blue who could be split. Hoping to breed them this coming season. Cheers Anna.

Thanks Anna. He is approx 1 year old. I was told when he was a baby that he was probably a boy as well. You are right, they are a very regal looking bird. His name is Chirpy, not a very regal name!! (my kids named him). Judy

Hi Judy, well if it is 1 year old & from the looks in the picture it looks like a male. Hey what is in a name, my princess parrots are called Henry the male, Zena the green female princess & Ozzie the blue female. I am hoping with a bit of luck & everything crossed to breed the lutino princess parrot this breeding season as both the male & hopefully the blue female is carrying the split for lutino. The lutino is also very stunning with the brighest of yellow feathers. Cheers Anna

they do look alike, don't they? she'll be having an identity crisis if she's a she, as i have called her "he" all along! So you need to see the tip of the tail? And from the back is it the tips of the wings or where on the back are we looking? I'm going to try to take more pics then you can all tell me what you think. Thanks. Judy

Hi I've been scanning through and saw your princess - how have things been going with him? We have a male princess too haven't had him all that long, unfortunately, not a lot of people here in Christchurch (NZ) have them (in fact no one else I know)so it's been a bit hard to compare notes. Ours just wants to be with us 24-7 which is great, however he's doesn't want to play with any "store-bought" toys does yours? Favorite thing is to toss a pack of cards (one by one) off the coffee table. When we go to work I'd like to think he can amuse himself, any suggestions. Does yours like to bathe - ours hates water, even a mist which surprises me. Would appreciate your feedback if you have time. Thanks. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Mackjack, I have a blue h/reared princess & now that she is nearly 2 years old she doesn't play with any toys anymore apart from a bell that hangs under a swinging toy which she talks non stop into. Her favorite game when she is out is to make tunnels while hubby is reading the paper, starts at the bottom end goes up & then goes back down & does it again & again. Most of the time though, she likes to just sit there & have pats all over, but only with hubby, she bites me LOL & I h/reared her. I think she sees hubby as her mate . She is a laugh though & seeing as her name is ozzie she can say the Australian sport chant all the way now & also says go ozzie go ;D ;D ;D Cheers Anna

Hi Anna, Thanks for the welcome msg I'm so jealous your princess allows petting - ours loves to sit on my chest and have a wee chat practically up against my mouth, but he won't have any kind of petting always stays just out of reach little buggar. Wants to have it all his way - "i'll run all over you but you can't touch me ha ha ha". He'll even sit on my fingers about a inch from my face when I'm applying lipstick (if I don't move him so I don't think the "no petting" is a trust issue. Does yours like to bathe at all, buddy will fly a mile if he thinks you might be even reaching for the spray bottle!! Jill.

Hi Jill, my Ozzie girl loves water. She will get sooo wet when she hears the rain or when I am watering plants outside the window where her cage is. That is the one thing I will not let Ozzie do is sit on my shoulder as she bites the crap out of me. She is more hubby's girl than mine though. She will rush to the top of the cage every time I walk by just to have beak pats through the cage & kisses, but when she is out she attacks me. Still don't know why. She sure is one funny little bird though as when hubby walks by her cage she whimpers till he stops & talks to her. She will allow me to pat her, but then all of a sudden she will just bite me, so kinda makes me a little nervous as it hurts. She was suppose to be for breeding but that didn't work out, too much human imprinted in her & she was so aggressive towards my male princess that we brought her back inside again. She is also a amazing talker & mimics everything. She really is one very spoilt bird,. Does your princess make soup out of his water? Ozzie puts everything into hers & looks disgusting at times even though we change it twice a day. Cheers for now, Anna

Hi Anna, thank for your feedback - the one sure thing about these birds is there is nothing "sure" about them. Yours sounds the complete opposite - likes petting and water - you got lucky alright - still I wouldn't swap ours for the world. He's bonded like glue to me, will tolerate hubby and will go to him happily if i'm not around. When I have to leave for work he goes spare - upsets him and me both. We purchased a what we were told was a male cockatiel (lutino - female Frank & yourself have now suggested) to companion him while we are at work so we'll see how that goes - hasn't made much of an impression on him so far. A male might have been better do you think? Cheers Jill

Hard to say Jill if the sex of the tiel will make any difference to your princess. My princess has a male tiel in a cage next to hers & she goes ballistic at him if he is up high in his cage trying to talk to her. She basically tells him off as if he has no right to be there. Only time will tell if your princess will get on with the tiel. Our princess only likes humans, well hubby actually & just tolerates any other bird that lands on her cage. She will try to bite their feet & she is lighting fast too. Even though your male is uninterested at the moment, at least he does have company & that does make a difference while your at work. My princess carries on all day & we are here all the time. She really is just a spoilt brat that likes to get her own way. ;D ;D. Cheers Anna
