That's a seed treat that I bought him 1 month ago. He barely touches it. What's wrong with this treat?

julie has taken these treats to labs and the way they make the seeds stay together like that they use glue.Julie has saw alot of birds that eat this treats one a month and they have there throats glued together. The birds died cause of it they got an arotopopiey (spelling) done on them and the birds died from eatting them treats.Once julie told me this i've never gave them another treat like that again.Have you tryed making your own.

Thanks for the info. I don't think i'll be using them again... I have looked for recipes but I haven't found one that I would give to my bird! Seems even the homemade stuff can have junk in them too. Anyway this treat he's not particularly keen on so he's hardley touching it & there are other friuts & flowers that he prefers so I'll stick to them.
Thanks!!

those treats can be made with honey..just mix the seed and hunny and put something in it while it's setting to hang the toy

Hi KJJL, I have made the seed treats from the seeds & honey with icecream sticks & the birds just love em. A lot more natural than glue & much cheaper to make. It is only a treat though due to the amount of honey used. The receipe that I have used comes from this site . Hope this receipe might help you Kim if you are interested. That is a great looking perch KIm, well done. Cheers Anna www.birdsnways.com/birds/rtreats.htm

not sure if you know about them..but u know those kong toys for dogs?? well there is one for birds.... i haven't used it with monty yet but we got it for our old tiel..u mix the seed up with some peanut butter and shove it inside the kong and they spend all day trying to get it out..and it's yummy..and the kong is made of a really strong rubber and has a clip to go on the edge of the care

Beautiful bird and love the play gym. Now I am worried about the treats I have for my bird. My treats have a green stick but I guess it's the same sort of thing. Are all commercial treats suspect?

Hi, I was wondering if this glue issue applied to all seed treat brands. I have after reading this taken away my girls B.M. one. I am shocked and disgusted by this info . When one visits a GP, they expect to be fully informed before giving consent, yet when it comes to our birds they can be treated so appaulingly, they are not a disposable commodity , they are an extended family member loved within their family's heart.Thankyou so much for sharing Pauline.

Sorry Kim, I got so worried about the treats I forgot to say I love the playgym. Our Aussie birds are so blessed to have access to their native foods, my girl Cheekee's favourite is the Banksia, then the Grevillea. Your tiel is such a handsome boy and so content to be on his big new toy. Pauline
