plumhead question

Just curious if anyone can tell if this pair are mature. They were sold to me as mature pair but I fear the one on the left might be a young bird.

Young or old they are beautifull birds I love the soft colouring they have on the head.

Looks like a mature pair to me Ollie ;D

To quote from a book I have " The hen is duller in colour with a green body and grey head. The hen also has a yellowish band around the neck and lacks the chestnut shoulder patch " (Asiatic Parrots by S & J Smith)

From memory the hen also has white on the tip of the tail instead of yellow.

They are a good looking, healthy young pair Bev, and given time, will settle down and breed for you The Plumhead is one of the very few Asiatics I like and is on my wish list ;D ;D

It looks like the one on the left is a young cock bird to me. the one on the right is a mature cock bird. it is a bad photo, I tried to enlarge it but still not very clear but colour on the head looks bright . my female has a pure grey head with no colour at all.
Plumhead cock birds take three years to get that colour on they heads.
Have a look after next moult and if colour on the head is going to get brighter than it is a male.

The female does looks like it is colouring up as a male in the photos..Have a look at the scales on the feet..That some times helps to determen the age in older birds..In older birds that are thick and rough..Young ones smooth and even...I can see what you are worried about there..I would be as well..To much colouring for a female...
