Here is the first stage of my Eclectus setup. Pair one arrived today and will slowing be adding pairs and flights over the year till i have 8 young pairs. I will show pics of birds after they have settled a few more days. here is what each flight will look like. There is another perch and food/dishes just behind where i took this picture.Too hard to get a full shot. Each flight is 3.3m L x1.2 m W x2m H. with saftey walkway at front.

Brad,
Nice setup. I take it the aviary backs up to a security walkway? Eckies can get very affectionate and may try to get out when you feed them.
Not being heavy chewers those perches will last near the entire lifespan of your birds. Wish I had steady access to quality perches.

nice cage brad i love ekkys but they are a bit out of my price range at the moment are they very noisy ? would you reccomend them in the suburbs? ps cant wait to see the bird piccies I breed eckies in the middle of suburbia in Melbourne. Heck, I've bred aratingas (sun, janday, nanday conures) here. However, what I have are (touch wood) exceptionally tolerant neighbours. Eckies tend not to produce the quantity of noise that of lorikeets and cockatiels. However, they do have ear piercing calls when excited or scared. As stated by Murphy's Law, if they're going to call the loudest it will be early in the morning and at dusk. Oh Brad, I forgot to ask whether the pair you purchased is a breeding pair.

I have purchased a young bonded pair. I say i will buy all young pairs and allowed to mature together and then at least i know what im getting. Im vary wary of so called breeders.
The floor is just medium shell grit. I sift and replace dirty areas everyday and will replace every so often. Im some what a clean freak with my birds. Cant stand any crap anywhere.
Perches is unlimited along with gum nuts and will replace when they get crap on them.No big deal. I have at least 20 already sitting on top of my shed.
Gum nuts and leaves i will changes every 2-3 days or if strip earlier. They really do like them.
So far they are very quiet.
Tim Each flight is 3.3m L x1.2 m W x2m H. with saftey walkway at front.I prefer it at front as i like to interact will my birds as much as possible.
Cheers Brad

Brad, That's the perfect attitude to breeding. Many people try to find a shortcut by purchasing 'breeder pairs'. However, there's usually an unspoken reason these breeders have been uped for sale. Infertile, feather plucking, egg eaters, and the list goes on. However, let me stress that at time to time genuine breeders can be advertised for sale. For example, I do quite often sell my proven reliable breeding birds. Not because they're exhibiting negative traits. Just purely on the basis that I have run out of aviary space . However, with young birds, like you said, you know that they don't have any pre-existing issues. Well done!

Hi Brad, Just curious to know if you have the holes where the corrugated roof is, closed off with wire or something. It looks like it is open, you may not have snakes where you are but I have to close mine off because they find it a great place to get in. Looks like a great set up what size wire do you have. Bev

Bev
It is open at the back for now.I will be buying some flashing shortly that will cover all the holes.
The wire is 19mmx19mmx1.5mm
Thanks for the words Tim. I really want to be known for a quality breeder that cares for my birds more than money. All be it a couple of years off yet.
The pair have made some noise tonight but when you have a suplhur crested cockie and 1000's more fly over in the wild everyday the eckys seem quiet.
will hopefully have a planted 8mx5mx4mH avairy by the end of the year to trial some colony breeding aswell.

It looks great Brad. Given me some ideas for mine. I wanted to put an aviary down the side of the house but next door is concerned their malamute might get agitated by the birds. Had to get rid of my chooks cause the other neighbours kept complaining that the chooks made their dog bark! Looking forward to some piccies of the eckys!

What a differance a few days make.
The birds now trust me and i started a little flight training with foods rewards.
only problem is now they mob me when i enter the aviary. If i dont have my hand up they just fly on my shoulder.
Still early days yet though hopefully have them trained well within a few months.
