julie was talking to the breeder that i'm getting my sun conure off and he asked her if i was still interested and of course julie said yes. Julie said his working out his breeding this week so by the sounds of this he has his breeding pairs together and preparing for them to mate. if this is correct about how long would it take for the female to lay the eggs, how long will it take for them to hatch, and i know its up to the bird how long it takes to to get to one feeding a day. i just want an guess how long i will have to wait.Would it be idea to get a book on birds. the breeder has to me first in line for a sun conure. Which reminds me i better tell julie what sex i want so she can tell bill the breeder. Is it normal for a bird to go through a biting stage cause i've noticed lollie julies sun conure is biting a fair bit. well thanks for everyone who has helped me sorry for all the posts and questions i just want to make sure i have got everything right.

Hi Tara, Like Polly I am impressed that you are putting in so much effort into finding out all you can about your bird before you actually get it. This says to me that you will be a excellent bird parent and you are to commended for your effort, it's a pity more bird owners didn't do the same as you instead of just buying birds on impulse only to find in a years time they are tired of the bird and lose interest.
Congratulations on your resolve.

Hi SunConure,
OK, I'll try to answer your questions ony by one.
Tough question to answer and only very few breeders would be able to definitevely say when their breeders will lay. A couple of factors need to be reviewed firstly. A) Is the breeding pair an established pair and have they had multiple seasons past. B) How long have they been separated or how long have they had breeding catalysts removed? If the breeder is only setting the breeding pair up now, it may take sometime before the pair immerse themselves into egg laying. At the absolute earliest, I would say that you shouldn't expect the first egg for another 3 - 5 weeks. You may be very lucky if the pair is rearing to go.
If all eggs are viable and the hen sits tight, anywhere between 26- 30 days before first egg hatches. In sun conures, the first egg laid tend to go cold before the hen starts incubating her clutch. That's another issue which I won't dwelve into here.
Yes, I'm afraid that most birds will go through the terrible twos. :-) In my personal opinion, the gender does not make any difference in the suitability of a bird as a companion. With eckies, I personally recommend hens to my clients.
Best of luck \. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

thanks pollyparrot, john MacawVic the parents are an established pair julie got her sun conure from them.I don't know how many sun conures his got but i think he only has the one pair. not sure on the sperating part or if they have had breeding catalysts removed?. Or i know is he breeds them in spring and winter. Julie said to me he should have some eggs in the incubator around June. Julie said she got hers when she was 2 months old. so i could be waiting 2 to 3 months before i actually get him.
