I have just joined this forum. So far it is just what iam looking for. Friendly and informative. I live in Jurien Bay, just moved here from Broome. We have 2 Rainbow Lorys, 2 Indian Ringnecks, 6 Alexandrines, 2 Princess Parrots, 7 Teils and 2 cranky pink and greys. I finished the hand rearing of three of the Teils, what great fun that was, loved it. These three are about 5 or 6 months old now. One of them makes me shake my head everyday. She, Shorty because she kept loosing her tail feathers making her look short, talks like mad. My question is it nomal that Teils talk so quick?. One morning I said " good morning baby " and a few times during the day repeat it , that night she would mubble but you could make out she was trying to say the words. By the next night she would be saying good morning baby clear and loud. I have had to gag my husband its a worry what he may teach her. I know she is a she. So does my husband only a female could talk this much, so he says. Ops could he be right? We have only just been bitten by the bird bug and we love nothing more than feeding our birds and sitting with a beer in the afternoons watching them. Are'nt the Princess Parrots just the most docile of birds?. Mine have been avary reared yet they will take seed from my hand and sit on my hand as I clean out the fruit bowl. Just a real joy to have. Thank you for letting me brag about my little girl, I thought I may change her name but she says "naughty shorty" so cute. Looking forward to visiting again.

Hi Broome, glad you luv this forum & a very big welcome. It is great & lots of nice friendly people who like to share their advise. All tiels are different at what age they talk but six months is about right for them. I had one tiel that talked & whistled at 3 months, but he had others to learn from. It is unsual for females to talk as the males are the best talkers, but it can happen, just not that often. I know I have tried & tried with some of my females tiels but nope they are closed mouths . My main passion is h/rearing birds, but mostly tiels as they are just great bundles of joy. I have a breeding pair of ringies & hopefully they & my princess parrots will breed this year too. I wish my blue princess that I h/reared was gentle but she turned aggressive when she hit hormones, so she had to go out to the avairy. She still hops on my shoulder but still bites me too I luv sitting out the back & listening to the birds as we have heaps of native birds here too. Can be a bit noisy at times but worth it. Hope to chat with you soon. Cheers Anna

Hi Broome
Glad you found this forum. Everyone is very helpful and friendly.
I used to live in the East Kimberley and we had lots of birds visiting our garden. Mainly finches and doves, always beautiful.
Have never travelled between Broome and Perth but one day I hope to do it. It sounds like you have a wonderful avian menagerie there.
Cheers Kath

Thank you for my welcome. I will get some photos on as soon as I can. I to love the photos. Yes Broome is a long way from Jurien approx 1200 Ks North. We have just completed a new cage for our Teils. I brought a hot house from Macro Warehouse for $70 six sided and about 2 metres accross we replaced the plastic with wire and we now have a fancy cage. As we get quite a bit of wind in Jurien we can move this cage as we need to. The Teils love it. Just thought I'd share this with you as they don't take up much room and the birds have plenty of room to fly and play. Thank you again i'll get these photos on the way

Hello again, Iam not sure if I'am to send a message to each member with my answers but never mind I like the idea of everyone chatting. Ollie... I have taken some photos of the cage but I'll get better ones tomorrow. I have just gotten a digital camera...only a small one so I will have a play...when I post the photo I'll explain how we tec screwed the bits together so the roof would'nt lift off. I'am just doing a second one...the first is a bit rough...so hope we can fine tune this one. Don't these birds get you in...my husdand has gone south for the weekend...yep we got more birds... his main job was to get a green female Ring Neck...He's bringing home a yellow female and a pair of blues oh! and another blue Princess Parrot golly now i'll have to get a mate for her ;D...these blokes can never follow a shopping list can they??? LoveMyTeils...when the time comes may I call on you for info on hand-raising the Teils... I have only finished them off so I can't say I have done the hard yards. I hope my Shorty does'nt get to hormonal or she'll be out in the avary to. Bill... I'll try the photo thing but I can see it will be a mission Bye for now
