Hi all - have just joined this great little forum, and I feel a bit inadequate - I only have one bird! He is my first ever and he is a 6 month old blue indian ringneck. He is a great little character - although he is going through the bluffing stage - biting everyone! We're working through this - slowly but surely. Apart from that he loves being handled and spending all of his time with us. Whatever we're doing he has to be a part of. I am so glad we didn't have to go through the process of socialising him as well. He also seems to be moulting. Is this normal at this time of the year? Anyway, I look forward to being part of this forum, as any helpful advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi Carrie, a very big welcome to this great forum. I have 3 blue h/reared ringie pets of my own. They are such characters. they are funny buggers the ringies, I find one day they are sweet & loving & just want to play & kiss & the next they they are grouchy & want to bite. When they are in this mood I introduce new foot toys to play with & this helps heaps & food rewards are also good for encouaging good behaviour. Keeps their mind occcupied. I think they get bored very easily & then take it out on the owners, but that is just my personal experience. Hope you enjoy it here & I learn something new everyday about my birds. Cheers Anna

You are all too kind! I'm sure I will get all the info I need right here. Just quickly - he seems to have "dandruff" and I read somewhere that it's the sheath of the quill coming off (or something like that) when they get to a certain stage. So this is normal? Thanks again!

Thanks for that - I feel better now. I can see how starting with one feathered friend can lead to many more - I already love the little bugger more than I thought possible - even though he can be a little devil at times! Hopefully with a little bit more experience I can handle having more than one someday.

Welcome Carrie, With the dandruff side of things i usually give my Tiel a light mist once a day with a normal cheapie sprayer with water in it, i use warm water this time of year as it is getting cooler and be careful not to let your feathered friend get cold. It realy does help keep the "Dandruff" down. "Aussie" gets dandruff, he loves to sit perched on someones shoulder and preen and then fly off and when you go out people think it's you with the dandruff as you have white powder stuff on your shoulders ;D Blossey
