Hi all,
I just got my first tiel, today. I read all about weeros I could find on the net before commiting.
I brought the bird, not even sure of the gender but think it is a female, home, about 4 PM.
The first hour or so, it did show some distress (trembling and staying put on its perach.), but then it got going and I got a few whistles and it started exploring its cage.
I had to put it in front of it's food dish to get it to eat. It doesn't seem to have found its water dish yet. After a couple of hours I opened the cage. It flew away (not far with wing trimmed) a couple of times and was quite willing to climb back on my finger and for me to put it back on it's cage.
After another hour or so in an open cage, I started handling it, climb from hand to hand, put it on my shoulder and walked it around the house. I noticed that it really liked to stroke its head on my beard, and was even looking/feeling as it was trying to preen it.
I did that a couple of times for about 15/20 minutes... then put it back on its cage. and after another hour or so closed the cage. An hour later, after dusk, put a cloth over the cage. Had a couple of whistle the first ten minutes, then it seems to have gone to sleep.
I never thought a bird could be so tamed. It is about 4 month old and was hand raised.
Really looking forward to this experience.
Thanks to the forum owner for his providing the forum.
Cheers and hello to all.
