newbe to everything avary

well where do i start.. my name is shannon and i'm allready an addict...

i'm an animal addict.. i have chooks, have had possums, joey, magpie, turkey, rabbits, guineapigs, calf, cat, yada yada yada...
i've been breeding poultry for a little over a year now and am always on the lookout for more things animal.. that is why as soon as i saw my avary advertised i jumped on it...
it is 6X6and is fully set up for finches, diamond doves and quail... so fully set up that it comes with 4 finches (was 6 but to escaped when the feller was catching them... i was very dissapionted) 8 diamond doves and 5 or 6 quail..

i have set the avary up quite well i think but havn't left much for the doves to pearch on so i need to change it around a bit.

i will need I.D. on the finches once i can get some good photo's. i know one is a red faced parrot finch (according to the feller who sold them to me) but i don't have him a mate. i have a pair of finches that are coloured somewhat like a sparrow but am told that they are finches.. and one brown one with a pink shade underneath and a read stripe on its face..

i will be looking for a hen for my parrot finch and the other strange looking single feller but only once my folks have decided that i can keep them (i told them i would sell the birds and the avary was for the chooks... yer right). i will also be selling some diamond doves and probably be looking for new blood to breed from.

does anyone have tips, etc for breeding/housing these birds..

i am feeding them on finch mix, meal worms, some special pidgeon mix, cuttle fish etc.

Welcome shannon. I am not a finch expert, but their diet seems ok to me, probably just add some fresh fruit and veges or greens etc to their diet also.

Hi and welcome Shannon. I don't know anything about finches either. I can relate to the animal thing as there's always critters around at my place LOL What sort of poultry do you breed? I love wyandottes.

Hi Shannon and welcome I can't say I keep finches either, but I do have diamond doves. I'll warn you that birds are very addictive and you'll probably not be able to stop at 1 aviary

at the moment i breed polish w/c black and blue and gold spangled hamburgs. i have a young s/l wyandotte that i am growing up as a breeder but need to get some more fertile eggs next year to make it complete.

i have a funny feeling that you are right jane... but the chooks are my priority for the next couple of years they may just have to co-exist. and then there is that sugar glider i want to get... and i heard that they eat aviary birds... dang. there is another aviary...
