Hi all, I've been a visitor for a LONG time and have finally joined! As you can see from my signature, I have a very busy household with 3 sons, 2 dogs, a cat, light of our life cockatiel, and budgie.. not to mention my patient husband who puts up with us all being bird crazy! Next to join our flock will be a red tail black cockatoo at the end of the year. She is only 5 weeks old right now, but very cute even tho she looks like a spiky dinosaur! Thats what our 5 year old says anyway! Hope to have many interesting discussions and posts with you all, will keep updating my piccies of baby Merlyn as I get them.

Hi Kianga, Wow a Red Tail Black Cockatoo!!! A bird the dreams are made of. Just out of curiousity why do you have to wait till the end of the year? Do blacks take that much longer then sulphurs to "wean" Ohhh sorry and welcome (almost forgot that part,am a tad excited).Great forum here with heaps of great advice, support and friendships. Am sure you will fit in well. Seems the Qlder's are gaining in numbers on the forum a bit as well....

Welcome Kianga, glad you finally decided to join us here AussieBirds, we get a lot of visitors here and we love it when they finally join.
You have a lot of people jealous with your Black Tailed Cockatoo they must surly be on most people to die for list, by the way you have a ready made name for him courtesy of your five year old, perhaps Dino?

Thanks for the kind welcomes!! My little one is a hen, her name is.. not dino but Merlyn. But thanks for the reserve name aussiebirds!! Seb, Red tail blacks have a long weaning time about 4-5 months) but more importantly, they mustnt be allowed to 'imprint' too heavily on one person... if they do then you get all the horror problems like screaming and feather plucking etc. The general concensus is to leave a bird with the carer for at LEAST 6 months.. most avian vets would prefer the blacks to stay longer but most people have trouble curbing their impatience!! Like me!! Her piccie is the one under my name.. she's a cute little munchkin, 5 weeks old tomorrow. I am so lucky to be getting her but gee its going to be a LONG few months. Lucky I can visit her as she is only a 20 min drive away! I have noticed quite a few of us Queenslanders on here.. good to see!!
