Hello, I'm new here I'm from Mexico I have coktails, parakeets and my new own are bourkies. I have a little problem with bourkies, first I bought a pair of pinky (rosas) but sometime I thinkd they are a pair and sometime I thnik they are two females or either two males as you can see I'm very confused. I have heard the better way to know sex is making DNA probe, In Mexico I'm looking some lab that wants to do it, while I'm looking for the way to sex them looking photos I'm going to put here a link were I'm uploading a lot of photos please if anybody can sayme somehik it will be wellcome. periquitos.mforos.com/54541/6768878-mis-periquitos-de-bourkie/Photos are not good quality I hope they are helpfull. Thaks every one. For me is a litlle difficult to write and read English because practice but I hope in a few days it begin easier.

I can see that one has more pink on its head than the other, my rosa males are pinker than my girls so maybe you do have a pair.

Hi Luisa, welcome to our forum from the pictures you have posted here I would say you have a pair, the bird on the right of the picture in the third shot could be a cock, however as you say they are not the best photos and to be absolutely sure get them DNA checked.
Bourke Parrots are not hard to sex visually as the male bird has a distinct blue marking above his beak however this does not show in Rosa Bourke or the Pink and the cock usually is darker in the face and shoulder area than the hen, do your birds have pink eyes or black?

Welcome! I personally think they look like 2 females. You can sex them if they are mature. Put your finger in the bum and feel for the pelvic bone. The males are close together (can only get tip of finger turned sideways in) , the females are much wider (tip of finger wide side in).

I thought you would be able to just press on the pelvic area to sex birds........most birds ........ to feel the pelvic area. I have seen it done and felt it myself but you do need to have more than one bird to compare it to. Yes the wider the pelvic bones the more likely it is to be a female (so the eggs can be layed) and the males pelvic bones are usually closer together.

Hi and welcome Luisa. Don't worry about your English I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon enough. Our Clara who is from France has done a wonderful job with understanding us and helping us to understand her so you'll be fine.

Problem I have with Inglish is that I don't practice because I was living 6 months in Mystic, Conecticut, USA. but that was about 15 years ago. I Tried with the pelvis wide, but I couldn't because I don't have practice and I saw a bird and when I´d got the other I had fotgether the wide of the first. (I think that I need a person who hold me them and then may be. ( this method discarted (je,je)
I'm looking for an other method, on wensday I'm going to try making a laparoscopy test. Be sure I'm going to write results.

are you able to just do a feather aor blood test?? They can also be tested for dna and then you will know the sex of your birds without the invasion of a laparoscopy.

Rosa's really are very very difficult to tell Luisa, the first pair I bought turned out to be both girls I'm not sure about the pelvic finger sexing thing, I'm sure the hens would have to have laid for there to be significant width there. In Australia we can do DNA sexing by mail order hopefully you can too, there are less risks than surgical sexing.
