My pet budgie is a healthy and happy bird, purchased last year in January, as a baby. I was away for 5 weeks, she was at home, with my hubby and children (no change of routine or environment) BUT! Her feathers, front and on the edges of wings, look like worn off! Front ones are darker on the edges. Even some tail feathers don't look like before.
Does anyone know what is happening with her feathers<
thank you

Hi Milly, there could be many reasons why her feathers are looking a bit ratty. If she is your bird, she might have been distressed while you were away & started chewing her feathers. She could also have had night fright & this will damage the feathers. She might be starting to go through a moult. She could also be bored & chewing her feathers. Are you providing enough calcium for her. Do you provide her with good omega 3 & omega 6 seeds as this is essential for good feathers. I wish I could advise you more but it is very hard, so maybe someone else has some ideas as to why they look this way. Cheers Anna

A photo would be handy but sounds like you bird has moulted while you were away and maybe the darker edging around the feathers is how the bird is too look at maturity ! Is there any evidence of damaged feathers or is it the new tones that is confusing you

Milly if you can get a picture as Frank said we might be able to give you some advice on the problem, don't hit the panic button yet it's probably nothing more than a molt.
