Hello all,
Now this is a serious post (although the title would beg to differ). Remember I have 2 Gay Pierres!!, well I separated them 4 days ago into different cages. One of them is fine, he's already moved on and found himself a girlfriend and checking out breeding boxes etc. The second one (he is the English in the photo) is pining, he just sits on his perch all day and gets snappy at the other birds if they go near him, he looks so dejected (if that's possible). Have I done the wrong thing do you think, I do believe my boy has a broken heart!!!! (lol, it's funny when you think of it, but it's sad to watch). I did have them out of sight but the 'sad' bird could hear his friend and went berzerk running around the cage (that was the first 2 days apart) looking for him. So now they can see each other but that just makes him very sad. Am I over-reacting, I feel really bad for separating them, do you think he'll come around and find himself another playmate or should I put them back together.
I realise this sounds ridiculous but it's happening to me right now and I don't know what to do.

Hi Shelly, I know what you are going through, but it is just a matter & wait & see what happens. Mine never recovered & pined that much that he stopped eating, so in the end I had him, his mate & his mates girl in the one aviary & he was so much better. It is really hard to advise what to do as each bird is different in the way that they react, but just give it a bit of time & see what happens & then take action if your gay pierre stops eating. Maybe someone else might have some good ideas to help your boy but I know I tried hard with mine & he wouldn't have a bar of any other budgie. Poor thing he must be so broken hearted & feels betrayed LOL (sorry for laughing). Cheers Anna

Shelly hello shelly is he eating and preening himeself by any cahnce and is there several females in the cage with him as it is not common for a male to reject a female (just like humans some males dont like some females and vis versa )so if you put several he may get interested the other thing if he is still unhappy you might try placing back in with the other and see how it goes hope this helps regards bill

Oh dear, I do feel sorry for him. They are funny aren't they. Is there suitable talent for him in the new cage. I've read that it is the female that chooses who she will mate with, so maybe more than one female. Don't leave the poor fellow too long though, if he stops eating he may starve to death.
