After me posting that Fluffy had improved he suddenly took a huge downturn, perhaps it was his last Hoorah! before he left us. Well, we unfortunately lost Fluffy today at 12.05pm. He just hopped off the perch and laid down and died right in front of my eyes. At least our little man is having fun up there in budgie heaven!!! My daughter (10 years old) was devastated, she had 3 friends over our house at the time who had slept here last night, so we had a funeral for him in the front garden (can't do it in the back, the dog likes to dig). We put him in a tissue box and the girls all placed a leaf in it with him before we buried him. It was so touching to watch, all the girls were crying. I've told her she can post on here later in the 'lost pets' section as she's read the other posts. I was very sad before but at least he's now in a better place and no longer feeling ill or sick all the time. I did post this at the bottom of my Update on Fluffy post but thought I'd start a new one because people probably won't re-read it. Shelly

Hi Shelly, I was very saddened to hear that fluffy past away. You did your best & that is all anyone can do when a bird is sick. You gave him lots of TLC & that is what matters the most & I'm sure he appreciated that. It is never easy when birds die because for me they really are my feathered kids & when one passes away, it tears me up for days, but life goes on & I'm sure you will have another special budgie when yours have babies. Thank you for keeping us posted on Fluffy, sad as it was to hear. Regards Anna

thanks for your kind words (and also to Teagan). She's very excited at the thought of our budgies having babies, they're constantly in and out of the breeding boxes. I saw a couple of them mating yesterday (silly me, I thought they did it in the box, lol) Do you know now long it takes for eggs to appear (roughly) once they start using the box all the time??

Hi Shelly, now that is an interesting question. It all depends how long they have been mating for. I put a nest box in for one of my pairs & about a week later I saw the first egg. But on saying that the budgies had been mating for at least for a couple of weeks & I noticed that the females rump was bulging & she was chewing any kind of wood that she could get her beak into lol looking to make a nest so thought better give her a box. She hatched her first baby yesterday & 5 more eggs to go. It is great news that Teagan is getting excited as this will help with the healing process. Perhaps John can give you some more advise on this. Cheers Anna
