Lately Goliath my english budgie has taken to sleeping on the floor! He is asleep because if you go out there you'll wake him and he'll get up and do something else. I have caught him and observed him to make sure he is healthy and other than gaining 2 grams since his last weigh in (a couple of months ago) He seems very healthy. Could this new and at first alarming behaviour just be because it seems more comfortable and out of the way of the other budgies? or could there be another budgie problem that I am unaware of? He does sleep very funny on perches and I have another budgie who use to sleep lying on perches too.

Hello Amanda, English budgies do tend to get overweight and very big they do at times have trouble perching and subsequently breeding.

He's not really over weight, it's all feathers! I thought he'd weigh a fair bit more than the other budgies we have but he is sitting at 54g. I weigh him to make sure he isn't loosing weight. The other budgies are quite aggressive and he is a very quiet bird who likes to keep to himself. He has a couple of friends and the young ones irritate him
