The other day I was cleaning out the budgie aviary and thought i had better look in the nest boxes, the first one i looked in had 5 babies in it, two i of which were lutino now i thought that was pretty good and was very pleased with that result because all the eggs in the box had hatched. I looked in the second box and there were SEVEN babies in the box now thats a good effort and to make it getter there were only 7 eggs in the box 100% in both boxes.

I have to agree with you about the sprouts Frank I am absolutely convinced that sprouts make all the difference, it's the first thing all my birds go for in the feeding dish and the tiels actually hang off the wire waiting for me of a morning, I am converted.

You sure are having a good start to the breeding season John, well done. I know what you mean about the sprouts though, I have 2 containers going at once now just to keep up the demand & the birds sure know it when I am staring my rounds. Cheers Anna

Hi Lin if you go to the section called Feeding & then go to the section called Sprouts, you will find the recipe there that Frank has recommended. Your tiels might like them to start with, but once they have babies they seem to devour them. If they won't touch them at all separately, you could also try putting about a tablespoon just on top of their seeds & I have found that even my fussiest tiels soon gets to like them. Hope this helps. Cheers Anna

Yes Lin have a look at the recipe and try them I will guarantee your teils will benefit from them I have two containers going too and not only my tiels get them but my Budgies and love birds get them too. They are so easy to sprout and keep well in a container in the vegetable crisper in your fridge, I will personally give them my seal of approval. John

Okay thanks guys, from all of my birds, I'm sure they'll love them! My budgies have babies at the moment, so they should get right into them!

One of my nest boxes has 16 eggs in it, obviously two hens have laid in the one box, the eggs are starting to hatch and 5 of them have hatched so far. Both hens are sitting in the box and co-existing, I have had this situation before with 10 eggs in the box and all hatched so I am hoping that this lot do the same.
