I still don't have any eggs, do some budgies just 'not' breed?
I've got them in 2 very large cages (1m square x 1.7m high). I have 3 pair in one cage and 3 pair plus one extra male in the other cage but they're just not interested. Should I try swapping them around or put them in individual cages.
Should I wait a while longer, or just give up and enjoy the birds as they are?

Hello Squitzy, your budgies may be too young, they may be too old or they may just not be interested at the moment. Don't panic yet and let them be for a while, feed them well, plenty of veggies and lots of sprouts and greens once they start to breed you wont be able to stop them.
Make sure you have plenty of nest boxes in for them and they will sort themselves out give them another week or two and then if they are still not breeding give us another yell and we will see if we can sort things out for you.

I've found with mine a bit of rain usually starts them off. I don't know where you are in Qld. but have you been getting the recent rain?

Have we what, gosh we had about 3 days straight (24 hours a day) of heavy rain, it was wonderful. Let's see what happens. I'm just in North Brisbane which has had buckets and buckets of rain (but sadly not enough to break the drought), I think we'd need to be visited by Noah and have 100 days and nights before that happens.

No Lorraine, unfortunately not.
(Sorry for not replying, PC died and have only just had it rebuilt).
They seem to be hopping in and out of the box though so I'm going to give it another couple of weeks and if nothing then I'll take the boxes out (or should I leave them in??)

Hi Shelly, why not try to take the nest boxes out for say a week & then retry. I have done this before, & next thing you know they are breeding. Hope it works for you. Cheers Anna

Hi Shelly there is a product called Budgie Starter and it's made by Passwells. You make it up like a biscuit mix and feed it to your birds, I have used it in the past and found it works very well.

Well, what do you know.
An egg, (from the same female), so I wonder how long it will take her to throw this one out. I was just going to follow up on the suggestions this weekend (ie, removing the box for a week, then I'll try the starter mix), but I'll have to wait now, lol.

down here in shepparton where i live my budgies have layed a few eggs and the female now spends most of her day in the nest, i have fond that if you soak multigrain bread or white bread in water then put it in with your budgies that they absolutely love it and it seems to work with other types of birds like cockatiels, quails and blue red rumps.

We give wholemeal bread to all our birds as a treat, even the rabbit loves it. ;D ;D
