i think my budgie might be injured or sick because she has been on eggs for nearly 18 days now and today i saw her out and she flapped down and landed on the ground so i had a look and couldn't see anything wrong with her, she then climbed up the mesh onto a perch before fluttering down again, so i picked her up and put her back in her nest so she doesn't hurt herself, i am really concerned. she is in a 3m long by 2m high by 1m wide cage and doesn't usually come out during the day because the male can stand on top of the nesting box and feed her. can someone please suggest something

I don't know much about budgies, its been a while since I had them, but if its been really hot there she may be dehydrated, is the male behaving normally? Really sounds as though she isn't getting enough fluids or food to keep her strength up, you may have to try to give her some electrolytes or glucose and warm water, but you may risk upsetting her and haveing her not return to the nest, its a tough one, hope someone else has some advise also.

what a shame, she really mustn't be feeling well if she abandoned the nest, next time they breed you could try giving they sprouted seed, wholemeal bread and some egg and biscuit mix, it seems to make it easy for the cock to fed the hen and they lose less condition that way.

hmmm i really hope she starts flying soon because i'm getting worried, at least she is moving around a bit now, my uncle thinks that she might have collided with one of the others in the cage or maybe landed on the mesh to hard....

electrolytes work wonders sometimes, its pulled many birds through, it isn't a cure but can rehydrate them and give them the strength they need to recover.
