Her is a story that you might find interesting, I had a clutch of budgies hatch and budgies being budgies they decided that they were ready to fledge before they were ready and all of them jumped out of the nest box and thought they would explore the aviary.
One of the little babies on jumping out of the aviary broke a leg and was quite incapacitated, you must realize these little birds were barely four weeks old and couldn't fly correctly, I really didn't know what to do about this, splint the leg, euthanize or what so i bought the little one inside and made him as comfortable as i could and thought about it.
During his time inside I kept feeding him so he was very well looked after during his resting time, and by this time all the other babies were fledged and ready for socializing so I goatherd them all up and put them inside.
I was still undecided as to what to do with the injured baby and of course by this time euthanasia was out of the question. I remembered something that was told to me many years ago about canneries and that was "that if a canary broke it's leg leave it alone and it will repair itself", well guess what that works with baby budgies too, the little one is walking around the bottom of the cage even started to climb the ladder I have in there for him.
I have all the babies in the same cage and they all take turns in looking after the little injured baby and it's all one big happy family and one recovering budgie baby..........isnt nature great.
I wouldn't try this with a full grown bird by the way only with babies.
