Not 100%sure here for they both have the blue wings coloured and the lighting is a problem like you mentioned its dark . My opinion here is the Male is on the left/ Female right.. Why l say its a male is he is more colourful as they are compared to the female..but this is only my guess..sorry l can't be sure. Hope someone help's for you Namzz

Well I have no idea but they do look different to me also. Hopefully, John, Jane, Seb (I think) or Laraine will come on and give some advise as they (I think) know something about these little birdies.

Impossible to sex them from your pictures namzz it's way to dark. Bourke parrots can be visually sexed but I would need a clearer photo, sorry I cant help you a bit more.

i was told that the normal is a female and the opaline is a male. That is a far better picture namzz and I am sorry to tell you that looking at the picture you have two hens. The bird on the left of the photo looks to me very much like a cinnamon hen, not an opaline cock as you were told, the bird on the left is a normal hen. I could be wrong but I don't think i am if they were my birds i would get a couple of rose cock birds and pair them up but buy from a breeder not a pet shop. John

Taking a closer look at the picture namzz, is there any chance of getting a front on photo of the cinnamon bird please? or could you tell us if the bird has a blue colouring above the nose area? In the cinnamon bird the cock bird is darker in colour than the hen but they do retain the blue brow.

ive got a reply from another forrum,
"Hi Namzz it looks like you have a pair there, the one which you refer to as an opaline is actually a cream aka fallow bourke and looks to be a male. If you look closely at the feathers above it's nostril males have a line of blue feathers there. A lot also depends on the age of the birds as they are difficult to sex when in their juvenile plumage but from what i can tell they look like a pair. Cheers Jenny "
i can take a better picture in a couple days. Thanks for your input.
Nam.

I haven't taken it the wrong way at all namzz, a cream is often referred to as a yellow, and the amount of cream markings can vary on some birds in my experience the bird in the picture is not a cream, not eneough yellow in the feathers. Sorry I don't know of any breeders in your part of the world namzz. John

John I am prettty sure you are right with the bourkes. I have just looked up the bourkes in my grass parrot book and they are just like the photos in the book, a cinnimon hen and a normal hen.

I think so too Pauline ;D but I am not sure of the sex on the cinnamon thats why I asked for a frontal shot I think I detect a blue colour across the nose, not sure. The normal is a hen for sure. Sorry to have to tell you this namzz but both birds in the photo's you put up are hens that's the problem with buying from a pet shop unless they specialize in birds it's a lottery.
