When you look at bourkes namzz pay particular attention to the area above the cere, that's the fleshy bit above the beak, that will be blue on a male bourke and plain on a hen, the hen is also duller in couler.

i went back to the pet shop today, and the salesperson explained/showed me that the birds have a greyish-blueish tinge-line starting on the top of their heads (males that is) and it wont develop darker until the birds have gone through their adult molt (if thats how you spell it)

Hope everything works out for you Nammz I have experianced as a part of bird breeding.. these thing happen and when they turn out the way they do..it such an inconvience Keep us posted when you find a male...pic bonus..he..

actually look at it this way..........it is another excuse (oh sorry.....reason and a legitimate one too ;D ) to go forth and buy some new birds (oops did I say some...........I meant one, must have slipped with the finger. LOL)
