Aren't birds strange ... I have had my best breeding budgie sitting on 5 eggs for about 3 weeks now. Saturday morning I looked into the box, as I do every morning, and they had completely disappeared. No sign of any shells on the floor or anywhere. Beats me.

I had a similar problem last season and then i worked out where mine were going too...I had a resident singleback lizard living in a log at the bottom of the aviary and he was helping himself to the eggs. He never worried about the babies, but ate about 75% of the eggs that were laid. I caught him and relocated him to the creek near our place and havent had any trouble since!! (that is until whatever it was decided to put a masive hole in the side of the aviary and let all my budgies out!!!) (maybe it was the lizard getting revenge??? )

..lol..Tracey Yes ..l have found Skinks in my avairy near nestbox's thou haven't lost eggs..but they love to eat eggs...eggs being high in Protein and a good source of energy in for there diet. Try looking around the avairy , especially at night when they are at there most active... Althou they love eggs.. Skinks are harmless and are fun to have and playful

We've only got a few blue tongues around our neighbourhood. But they aren't getting into the aviaries. Anyway she is in the nest again, so see what happens now. There are quail eggs on the floor of the same aviary and they never disappear (wish they would).

Don't you wish you could get a dollar for every quail egg on the floor? We'd all be billionaires.

Mine never hatch even though I see them tangoing. I don't really want baby quails anyway. She is sitting tight on some eggs at the moment. We are going to New Zealand in 3 weeks so they will probably hatch just before we go.
