We have a large aviary with only 10 left
We brought 4 Quails, about two weeks ago and since that we have found 3 dead.
In the Quail breeding boxes there is one with no eggs and we found one budgie dead in that box
In the other box there is 5 eggs and there were two budgies dead, Could anyone please give me any advice on what is going on thanks you

We would only be guessing and need a bit more information for our "guess".
If you didn't quarantine your quails it is quite possible they brought in an illness or it might just be coincidence too. Where do you live?? (not your actual address just the area) and what is the weather like. What symptoms if any did the birds show and are there anythng on the bodies that might be a clue??

Are the boxes homemade or bought? I wonder if they ingested something in or from the boxes since thats where they were found. If the boxes are made from treated pine take them out immediately as it is toxic.

we live in central victoria where the last few days have been extremly hot, so think maybe it could be the heat ....today l have been spraying the birds with a water bottle dont know if thats okay ,No the birds have nothing on them at all,,but one had the eyes poked my husband seems to think that it has gone into the box where the Quails eggs are.
We have one female silver Quail she is the one on the eggs, and unsure on the others they are brown, Thank you all for help

Yes spraying your birds with water is a great idea, it really helps in these hot conditions.

Oh little King Quails, they shouldn't cause any problems, maybe if you think heat is the problem you could make a shadecloth sail to go above the avairy to reduce the direct heat

Just caught this..\ dehydration in this weather especially with tomorrow temperature??42 degrees forcast.. it is important not to over water either, for you create to much humitity as well.... Agree with Jules"pat on the back' You can aslo place large shallow water bowls around the cage or avairy you have especially from where the northerly is blowing creates a cooling affect. If you have a large concreted area next to your avairy were the birds are ...."cover it"rag or something ,,,for it generates heat and makes it's hotter.. Shade and wet grounds were the wind is blowing from l find great especially wetting that area well the night before

The weather has been very hot in Victoria lately. It could be the heat, I agree with previous posts, the birds need to be sprayed with water regularly on a hot day. They love it. Have you noticed dirty bottoms on the ones affected. Budgies are very susceptible to Coccidiosis especially after rain. I had the same problem a few months ago and lost my show budgies. You need to isolate the sick ones. I bought Sulphadim from the pet shop and fed them small quantities with an eye dropper. Also use it in the aviary as well. Once I did that I lost no more. Its heartbreaking. It could also be a gastric problem in which case they will need Doxyclycline. Hope things get better.

Heat can also cause stress in birds and stress brings out sickness. I would get some of my birds tested by an avian vet.

You poor thing I would get one of the dead birds autopsied. I have done this before. That way the vet can have a really good look, sometimes its only guess work when they are alive. That way you will know for sure. Good luck.

Don't put the fan too close as they can catch a chill and go into shock. Is your aviary in the direct sun as it maybe too hot for them and with you watering and bringing them into a cold enviroment they have gone into shock and budgies do that very easily.
I'm in the NE of Victoria so I know what weather you have been having and it has been atrocious, I have been watering mine down every hour with the hose and they loved it, and after the sun has gone down I don't do it anymore as that is when the chill factor sets in even in the extreme temperatures.
keep changing their water regularly during the day of extreme hot weather as the water becomes very hot and stagnant and that could be where they are getting a bacterial disease from and the go down very quickly.
Have you got any heavy material like Hessian bags or old chenile bedspreads wet them and put on the aviary as that is better than a fan as the air is cirulating naturally.
good luck and sorry to hear of your losses.
