My budgies are starting to breed again after a long period of nothing one of my pair had laid four eggs three of which hatched right on schedule, the fourth one hatched a couple of days late in fact i was almost going to remove the egg and let her get on with raising the babies, one of the babies died and I now have three healthy babies, the strange thing about them is that two of them are Lutino, I have never had two Lutino's from the same clutch before and in the past these two birds have never given me this colour, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining ;D ;D ;D ;D. Are the babies black eyed lutino or red-eye lutino, and what are the colours of the parents? If they are red-eyed then it would appear to indicate that the father is split lutino and the two lutino babies are both female.
Also never take the book incubation period as gospel - there is often some deviation from the theoretical norm.
cheers,
Mike

The cock must be split for lutino and the two babies are hens since the lutino gene is a sex-linked one.
cheers,
Mike

The ino's are my favourite and I am striving to breed one without the suffusion which does spoil the look somewhat. My breeding pair of lutino's are both yellow wing & tails so I am hoping their chicks also inherit the yellow wings & tails. Not that fussed on the white wings & tails.

I went to the Royal Easter Show last week, and luckily the birds were on. I actually wanted to see the cats, but anyway the budgie showbird winner was a huge lutino. It was beautiful, would like to know what it was worth $$$$. The overall winner for showbird of the year was a Scarlet Chested parrot.
