Judy do you mean to teach her to "recall" to you? If so then I taught Skye to recall to me by using food treats and a clicker. I put her on the t stand and held my hand out far enough for her to reach by her beak, I patted my arm and said "come on" (I might have started by saying step up first). Then as soon as she came to me or even motioned to come to me I clicked and treated. It didn't take long for me to be at a few steps away and she was jumping to me, then a bit further away and she was flying to me. Skye flying to me (when she was free flighted) Teaching Skye to recall here I asked her to fly to me and she was on the washing.........she did those were the days when she was a lovely bird who did not try to rip your wrist off.

Ok the first one she was flying to me The second one she was still learning and was flying from a short distance The third one I was still training her by targeting with the knitting needle (that is what I used to target) and clicking and treating the fourth one you can see she is on the cage, I had some fruit in my hand so she could see it plus she got it as soon as she landed on me.

that is a gorgeous shot of her about to take off tracey.
So do I start by having a treat in my hand first when she takes flight or before she takes flight?

I had the treat, the clicker and the knitting needle in my hands. It was difficult, but I managed. Other wise you could have the treat next to you, but you must give the treat. Oh also if Jetta loves affection, you could use that. Bo (galah) would toss her food when I was training her, but she loved to be scratched and patted as her reward. The reward doesn't have to be food, it can be anything that they absolutely love. For skye seeing as she is not a scratchy feely bird, then food was her motivator. First you should try to find out what Jetta really likes.........what types of food she adores, whether she loves affection over food.........(I would imagine she would love pats and scratches). For now I would be consentrating on getting her to stepup (which she probably is already) and just aclimatising her to you and her surroundings and learning more about her. There are many things you can be doing in the meantime for bonding..............but this is just my personal opinion.
Even with my dogs when I first get them I allow them about 2 weeks to get used to us and their name before I start serious training.

Training is going great thanks greg. Im off to buy her a harness this weekend so she can come outdoors and for drives. She has stopped biting. Not sure why she started, maybe she was making her territory known for some reason, but it only lasted a couple of days. Shes as gentle as can be and such a lovely nature.
