Hi All, i have just been reading info in the small parrots section on what everyone is doing regarding leg bands and records. Most people i have spoken to are not leg banding their bigger cockatoos(Gangs anyway!) Personally i would prefer mine banded. I have my birds in a very large avairy and when the babies grow up may have trouble telling who is who. The birds were not banded when i got them. Is it to late to do them now? I would really like to band any offspring so i can keep all the records straight. Is there a reason that most people are not banding or is it just a money/time factor? I have also been shopping around for a program to keep all my records, (my husband insists i keep a track of the money spent...oh dear!! ) So far i have had a look at avairy manager3, zooeasy and another one whos name escapes me at the mo. Does anyone use these? I thought the zooeasy one was the best as you can calculate inbreeding coefficients etc as well + give a family tree, put in photos etc. Cheers, sal.

Hi Sal you can use plastic wrap-on type bands for your mature birds maybe even color coded per family tree and yes i would highly recommend leg rings to young if you are going to breed a few different lines. Also record keeping doesn't have to be expensive i used microsoft word to make mine up and ther was a link on one of the posts where you can dowm load formatted files and the genetic calculator on the links page will calculate breeding results good luck Frank
