I have a female galah about three years old. She has a lump between her legs which appears to be fat. It is not hard and moves around when you rub it. looks like a fat stomach that has no muscle on a human if you know what I mean. She laid 1 egg last year but didn't sit on it. She seems healthy enough and is eating well. Has anyone any idea what it could be.

Hi Ollie! looks like she needs to go on a diet. I've been reading about this and the solution was switching diet to vegies and pellets or budgie mix. No more sunflower seeds which is high on fat. I hope this helps. Im not an expert but I do my research. Anthony

Hi ollie, It mite be a skin lump.which is due to tumours or abscesses.
There are so many different types of shin tumours that can affect of bird.Cookatoos can get these from beening over weight...Like Tonyo said..You mite want to watch the diet..if it was a abscesses it would feel hard and have a cheesy texture about it.. I would take your bird to a vet and get it checked out...Before it could do some harm..They can be removed or drained...I would not muck around with this..Go get it check out as soon as you can...

Good advice Natalie, I certainly wouldn't muck around with a lump that is as big as you say.

Thanks for your help I have had someone have a look at it and the diet is the answer. So both she and I are on a diet. We'll see how we go. I will probably be stricter with her than I am with myself Ha ha!!!

Great I hadn't thought of rice cakes, I have been giving her lots of vegies and I got some seed from the feed barn down the road with only a little bit of sunflower in it and also mung bean & sprouted seed. Hope it works!

hi it really depends on the new owners if they are very experienced and will love and dote on the birds like we all do lol as soon as they are eating by them selves if they are new to birds id wait till babys are more independant and not so needy as we know they are as youngsters as for age i always reckon it depends on the bird they are all so different
