Apart from the obvious differences (change in colour of beak and first headfeathers at 12mths) are their any other ways of sexing a king parrot other than surgical or dna? PS does anyone want a troubled King parrot? Nah wouldn't inflict him on nice people

We've had this guy for a little while now, we purchased him as a Hand raised and was really sweet for the first week... Since then we have gone rapidly downhill. He is very agressive, bites constantly even when out of the cage. Attacks faces when on the shoulder, won't come out of the cage now even when you leave the door open and walk away. Constantly attacks when you feed him or touch the cage. Chucks tanties as though he wants out. We have read behaviour books, web pages, use a branch to try to get him out of his cage. ARRGGHH He is a good whistler and a beautiful bird I just think he wants to be an aviary bird. We have been trying to work with him for a while now with no success. Shane can't go near him he just mucks up and when I go to the cage he asserts his dominance over me by climbing up the side of his cage so he is higher than me. We just don't have the patience or the knowledge to deal with him anymore. He would make a great aviary bird and possibly a great breeder or if someone had the skills, cast iron hands and time to devote to re-training him he would be the perfect bird. I have just come to the point where I'm sick of being bitten when I'm just feeding him. He was bought as a companion bird and he isn't that at this point in time.

We are trying to find out the sex so we can sell him later on down the track to a breeder or whoever is interested. It's just that most breeders want a certain sex.... we will tell all people of his/her behaviour tho.

Shane isn't really willing to go below $130 because of all the money we have spent to recify his behaviour. No one up here does alot of sexing but I'm calling a local breeder tomorrow, he is away today. Shane has also been told the petstore will give him $140 for the bird.

Has the bird got any small bright green patches on his wings. I have been told by a breeder you can sex the males by his. The males have the patches and the females dont.

Some females do have that stripe on the wing it's just not as bright, I'm starting to think this bird is younger than what we were told which could explain the behaviour problems we are experiencing. This birds colours have not changed at all from the day we brought it home. I've even seen a photo of another bird thats supposedly the same age as this one and they look nothing alike.

Guess what.... it's a boy. It's beak in the last month has started to change, it's going red. Still very agressive and will attack hands. Lives in an avairy now. Something tells me that this little bird was sold to us at too young an age.
