Hi everyone,
I am afraid that I have some bad news. The possible pied eckie chick did not make it. :-( The stress of having being beaten by his parents and being pulled for handrearing was too much stress for the chick. He died this morning.

Hi I am so sorry to hear that the baby died. While I don't know much about the birds you are h/rearing I have been following your progress. What a bugger. poor baby. Hope that this does not make you too sad. Cheers Anna

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Like most on this forum the loss of any bird, be it a canary or a macaw, is always a sad event. However, I've learnt that I will need to pull all chicks by 3 weeks of age from this particular pair of eckies, before the chicks start pinning.
On a lighter note, the parents of this deceased chick has started nesting again. The hen has been looking heavy for the last week now (may be another reason why she started plucking the chick) so may expect more eggs in a few weeks. Hopefully the chicks produced will also exhibit the toe markings.
Thanks for all your well wishes again.
