Yeah, I had a Galah as a kid, which made me want another one.. She passed away though about 5years after dad caught her whilst he was helping a friend put a roof on there house, so she must have been old.. Was a lovley bird though, very kind hearted etc etc.. She was scared of heights though the poor bugger! would not fly anywhere! lol

Hi guys,
Just thought i'd give use an update on Banjo. Its been a week of owning him today and he has settled in great. He now comes out of his cage, he is still a little hesitant to come to you out of the cage but I can pick him up and he only gives me nibbles on the hand.. You can put your finger in the cage and he will come up and lick it. He is finally starting to play with his "expensive" toys I bought him (which I dident think he was going to do! as he was scared of them and I thought I wasted $50 on a bell and a swing!) LOL! but now he plays with them and acts a typical "galah" hanging upside down eating, twanging the cage wires etc etc.
He isnt scared of the malamute no more eigher, I think he is the boss now!
Thanks for your help guys, its very appreciated! I thought it was going to be alot harder taming a near wild galah, and I was a little scared of him at first but it seems as though we are forming quite a close bond!

Well his still going great, when I let him out and everyone leaves the room he will go exploring and walk around the house or follow you around, his not too keen on standing on your hand though at the moment, I guess he will get used to that sooner or later.
Are male galahs good talkers compared to the females? Ive heard him mumble a few things when his playing or being cheeky, but not sure what his going on about .. lol

All male birds are better talkers than females ( pity that wasn't the case in humans ) Rob, but female birds will talk it's just that they take a little longer and don't do it as well. Just persevere with the hand sitting he will soon get the idea ;D. John

In most birds the males are the better talkers. My Bo was a female and could say a few words..........but later on she downgraded her "few" words to "hello". I had heard a male galah many many years ago who could talk and sounded like a human. He was amazing. Apart from Skye my eclectus (who is female) the only other great talker I had was a male budgie I had called "Jasper". He was fantastic. Most of my other parrots could talk but I have found the males to be better talkers generally....................Skye though is the best talker I have ever had and she says things in context now too. Just as well as us human females can talk well...................some of the males aren't good talkers (I am refering to some family)

Another update; Banjo is still a big sook, but sometimes he tries to own the place and gets a bit nippy, when he does this ive been putting him back in his cage and telling him a firm, NO. is this the right way to go about it? He also just LOVES ripping keys from the keyboard.. lol He gets a little chat going with himself sometimes, or when his being lovey dovey too you, thats when his not nibbling on ur finger! Also, do the sandpaper sheets that you put on the bottom of cages come in big size cages? I asked at the petshop and they had no clue..

You're doing the right thing as far as his biting goes, but sandpaper sheets in thew bottom of his cage !!!!!, think about it how would you like to walk on sandpaper in bare feet all day, not me that's for sure. Banjo sounds like he is really settling in and you are doing a great job with him, my opinion loose the sandpaper sheets in the bottom of the cage ;D.

John Howdy John, Its not actually Sandpaper, its gritt sheet, I don't know whether that is the same, I was just hoping it would get his nails down abit because they are really sharp.. REALLY sharp, peirces your finger when he holds on for dear life.. Is there any "natural" way to get them down?
